This Grace Called Favour - Detailed Note With Explanation

Detailed Notes With Explanation of the Sermon "This Grace Called Favour" by Apostle Joshua Selman

Scripture Reading: Philippians 1:7, 2 Corinthians 8:7

These scriptures lay the foundation for understanding grace and favour in the Christian faith. Philippians 1:7 speaks of being partakers of grace, indicating that grace is a shared blessing among believers. 2 Corinthians 8:7 encourages believers to excel in grace, suggesting that grace can be cultivated and increased in one's life.

1. The Concept of Divine Systems of Advantage

  • Man's Limitation and God's Provision: The sermon begins by recognizing that human beings are inherently limited in their capacities and abilities. Because of this, God has designed systems of advantage, such as speed and favour, to help individuals overcome these limitations. These systems are divine interventions that enable believers to achieve what they ordinarily could not on their own.

  • Prayer for Wisdom, Favour, and Anointing: Wisdom, favour, and the anointing of the Holy Spirit are essential elements that believers are encouraged to pray for. These are divine resources that equip individuals to navigate life successfully, making decisions aligned with God's will, receiving unmerited favour, and operating in the power of the Holy Spirit.

    Scripture Reference:

    • Exodus 3:21: This verse shows God promising the Israelites favour in the eyes of the Egyptians, ensuring that they would not leave Egypt empty-handed.
    • Exodus 11:3: Here, God grants Moses great favour in the sight of Pharaoh and the Egyptian people, highlighting the influence of divine favour.

2. Understanding Favour

  • What is Favour?

    • The sermon distinguishes between the unmerited favour of salvation, which is a free gift through Christ, and other dimensions of favour, which are merited. This implies that while salvation is freely given, other aspects of favour can be cultivated or earned through specific actions or principles.

    Scripture Reference:

    • Proverbs 13:15: This verse implies that good understanding or wisdom brings favour, while the way of the unfaithful is hard. It supports the idea that favour can be linked to one's actions and decisions.
  • Divine Help and Assistance:

    • Favour is described as divine help or assistance, where God partners with individuals to provide the necessary support for their life and destiny. This partnership is critical for success in God's kingdom.

    Scripture Reference:

    • Luke 2:52: This verse tells us that Jesus grew in wisdom, stature, and favour with God and men, highlighting the importance of favour in both the divine and human realms.

3. The Importance of Favour

  • Levels of Favour:

    • The sermon outlines two levels of favour: favour with God and favour with men. Both are essential for excelling in life. Favour with God provides spiritual backing, while favour with men opens doors of opportunity and support in the physical realm.
  • Favour and Success:

    • Success in the kingdom of God is often connected to favour. The sermon emphasizes that who likes you can significantly impact your success, as blessings from God often come through other people.
  • The Necessity of Favour:

    • Favour is essential for achieving goals and fulfilling one's divine destiny. It is often necessary to gain favour with influential individuals who can help you succeed in your endeavors.
  • Favour as Divine Investment:

    • God can raise individuals to invest their time, resources, and credibility in your life. This kind of favour can open numerous doors of opportunity that would otherwise remain closed.

4. The Seven Currencies for Achievement

  • Beyond Money:
    • The sermon mentions that there are seven currencies needed to achieve anything, with money being the least of them. The highest form of currency is "True Riches," which comes from God. This suggests that spiritual and intangible resources (such as wisdom, relationships, favour, etc.) are more valuable and effective in achieving lasting success than mere financial wealth.

5. Keys to Activating Favour

  • 1. Honour:

    • Honour involves recognizing, celebrating, and rewarding the unique qualities and achievements of others. It begins with discernment, understanding that while all men are equal in Christ, their earthly achievements and roles may vary.
    • Expression of Honour: Gratitude is a clear expression of honour, as it shows appreciation for the value others bring into your life.
  • 2. Value:

    • Value is defined as your ability to solve problems or provide solutions, making you useful to others. The level of value you possess is evident in how much others are willing to pursue you and the sacrifices they make to gain access to you.
  • 3. Relationships (Amos 3:3):

    • Relationships are seen as advantageous connections that can facilitate the flow of favour. Building and maintaining the right relationships can be a critical factor in accessing divine favour.
  • 4. Prayer:

    • Prayer is a powerful tool that can provoke and activate favour in one's life. Through prayer, believers can seek divine intervention and the grace of favour.
  • 5. The Esther Anointing (Esther 2:15):

    • The sermon concludes with the concept of the "Esther Anointing," which is a special grace of favour that can be imparted. This anointing causes people to be inclined toward you, often opening doors that would otherwise remain closed. The grace of favour insists on the hearts of men, compelling them to favour you.

Conclusion

The sermon provides a comprehensive understanding of divine favour, emphasizing its importance in achieving success and fulfilling divine purpose. It outlines practical keys to activating favour and encourages believers to pray for and seek this grace in their lives. By understanding and applying these principles, one can position themselves to receive divine assistance and favour, leading to a life of victory and fulfillment in God's kingdom.
